d'artagnan... wow

by Tim OL » Thu Feb 10, 2011 7:58 am

We ordered about ten or so items from d'artagnan for the holidays. One of these was the milanese pork chops which I am just getting around to trying. I had the first one yesterday and the second one today.

I have tested about every pork chop in Chicago including whole foods and the high end grocery store... Fox and Obel. All of their chops were like tasteless pieces of matting. Not so with these berkshire chops. They were the chops I remembered from my eary years... juicy, tender and loaded with taste.

I definitely am going back for more and plan on keeping a bunch of these in my freezer.

What a pleasure to have a decent pork chop again

Hmmm...I buy from d'Art from time to time but have never tried the pork chops. You sure have my attention when you mention remembering pork tasting a lot better. So do I. Thanks for the recco...what was the price per pound on these?

I refuse to waste my time and money on tasteless cardboard textured pork. The industrial hogs today are bred and fed to have a minimum of fat and that holds zero appeal for me as it results in an inferior product.
Fortunately, we have a source for locally (if next county over qualifies as local) raised pork at a price equal to or less than the supermarket crap....living in the sticks does have advantages.

Never had a less-than-fantastic product from d'Artagnan yet.

No shipping?

Last I checked, D'Artagnan was offering free shipping on >$100 orders this month.

Jenise...

A bit pricy at around 10 to 11 per lb. The shipping is what kills you.

I would be remiss if I did not mention two other items we ordered for the holidays. Of all places... my steak joint... Allen brothers. These were from their Tuscany collection. A really wonderful pear ravioli in a bechamel gorgonzola cream sauce and a really nice vegetarian lasagna. These though are definitely on the pricey side.

Of the pates and terrines we ordered from d'artagnan we really liked the vegetable terrine, the peppercorn mousse and the mousse truffle.

All of these items are or my shopping list for next year.

I love d'Artagnan, thanks for the note about shipping.

I'm curious about some of the game birds, grouse etc.

I've bought the cassoulet kit a couple of times, and countless little tubs of paté de foie gras. Plus the confit duck legs, the duck fat, etc etc.

Anyway, spending $100 at d'A is way too easy...
