Thursday night we went with friends to one of our favorite Italian Bistro style restaurants, owned by a local Italian family who claims to have family recipes dating back to the 1920's. They have several signature dishes which are very good. One of them is a Tuscan steak, which is a rib-eye marinated in some sort of delicious concoction, served with sautéed mushrooms of various varieties. This night they served pencil thin asparagus which came bight green in color and still crispy. It irritates me that they serve garlic mashed potatoes with this dish.....can you believe that? Everyone in town in on the garlic mashed potato kick. So like our last visit, I asked for a pasta substitute. I was asked if angel hair pasta was OK and said yes. The server said, "the sautéed mushrooms will dress your angel hair pasta nicely". I thought that rather strange, but said nothing. It should have been my clue to speak up. So the nicely done dish came and there it was......naked angel hair pasta, all twisted up in a perfect tower. I did ask for Parmesan to be grated over the top, and with the addition of the sautéed mushrooms and some resulting juices, it was just fine. Still, I wondered about serving it that way. Any opinions?
I could not recall what they substituted last time, but we all agreed that it was a pasta we all liked, and it did have a sauce.
