An offbeat treat: Haggis chips!

Or allegedly haggis-flavored potato crisps from Scotland, actually. They're surprisingly seductive ...

Oh jeez. My daughter loves the odd chip (or "crisp") flavors they have in the UK. I hope she never has a chance to get hold of these.

Well... Good haggis is tasty, bad haggis is disgusting. Most good haggis has its seasonings fairly well to the fore. A lot of the bad haggis I've eaten tastes of Bisto, or some similar stock/gravy flavour. Bisto flavoured chips, anyone?

If this gave one the chance to taste Haggis flavors without actually tasting Haggis, I'd "bite", pardon the pun. Otherwise....euw.

Well, it's not real haggis flavors. I read the small print, and what it is, is potato chips with a little bit of natural pork flavor. Sort of like barbecue chips, but meaty rather than spicy. The meat flavor is mild, and the whole shtick is really more a gimmick than anything else.

The good part is that they are truly awesome chips, thick-cut and crisp and very, very fresh.

Curious that it has pork flavour as haggis is made from sheep.

I think the whole concept is kind of tongue-in-cheek, Barb. They made a meat-flavored chip and call it haggis chips because they're Scottish, I guess.

If you want haggis, eat haggis. Flavoured potato chips won't give even a hint of what it's like. And half the experience of eating anything is the texture. Haggis is not meant to be crisp.

Oh, I agree, Matilda. I've had the haggis in Edinburgh, and I've had the haggis at Burns Day celebrations in the US. (Are you out there, Barb F?)

But this is just for silly fun! A Scottish crisps maker doing something tongue in cheek.

Indeed! Much like the "Cajun Squirrel" flavor that Walker's put out.
