Fun article on everyone's favorite rasp

There's a piece on the history of the Microplane at the NY Times website. It's an interesting story of a company that didn't initially realize what it had.

That article sure brought back "the good old days" for me--long before any Microplane was sold in a kitchen store, someone here on FLDG (or was it Compuserve even before that?, was recommending bringing the rasp in from the garage to take care of grating needs.

It made me think about the last thing that you could say "came in from the garage" though it didn't really, however I DID buy it at an automotive store for my kitchen: an oil funnel. It has a small, about 10 ounce hopper with an inch-wide chute that is PURRFECT for refilling herb and spice jars from the bags one buys from Penzey's.

Yes, thought it was fun to read.
More interesting was the recipe for the cabbage and bean dish . Can't wait to make a batch of that seasoned clarified butter and try it out.

Samuelsson's dish? That sounded yummy. Even more appealing to me was the Floyd Cardoz braised cabbage wedges. I love cabbage and because it's such good diet food have been eating a lot of it lately. I could definitely use some variety.

Yes, Samuelsson's dish. All the spices in the clarified butter sounded good to me.
Love cabbage also. Good raw in slaws and other cold salads. Love it in soup; braised; stuffed. Now that I think of it, very versatile if not elegant.
Mamma Mia !
