Beware of tellicherry extra bold

by Jenise » Sun Dec 26, 2010 3:25 pm

I paid the premium for this peppercorn at Penzey's, but guess what? The berries are too big for my new Peugeot pepper mill. It flat out just doesn't work, the berries don't feed at ALL. Thinking it defective I actually returned it to the store I bought it from and they helped me figure this out--in fact, they mentioned that Peugeot reccomends malabar pepper because it has no skin (they said), and therefore there's less for the mechanism to hang up on. Well, if it's going to have a problem with regular tellicherry (and about that I don't know yet) then I'm going to have a problem with Peugeot--it's rather insane design to make something that's so sensitive it can only handle one variety of peppercorn. And me and tellicherry are inseparable.

We use regular Tellicherry with no problem in our Peugeot. Tastes great too.

I use the Extra Bold from Penzey's. It grinds perfectly with this standby model:
