It's beautiful

by Mike_F » Tue Dec 07, 2010 5:07 pm

I just had to take a photograph of this dessert -

'earth', by Chef Meir Adoni, Catit restaurant, Tel Aviv ( http://www.catit.co.il/main_E.php )

Porcini crème, choclate and smoked cardamom truffle, tonka crumble, white chocolate and truffles ganache spiced quince, frozen white chocolate crunch & resin sauce

adama.jpg

My poor photography does not do it justice. Everything on the serving platter is edible, except for the mottled grey stones.

Beautiful to see, and a spectacular combination of tastes.

A truly outstanding restaurant, IMVHO.

Now THAT is food porn! One of the most beautiful desserts I've ever seen, in fact.

Here, by the way, is your dessert's polar opposite (hopefully the Disney Grapefruit cake is still up first):

That's pretty weird. (But at least it's made from scratch and not some sort of Sandra Lee-esque abomination.)

I hear you, and the good part of me hesitated to make fun of it but obviously Bad Jenise took over. Actually, what's notable about that cake is not the cake but the subheading above it (which is why friend Chris sent it to me) that claims the copycat-recipe site has copies of everything from ____ to Sandra Lee's pound cake--as if Sandra Lee's cooking is 'original' in any acceptable definition of that word when it comes to good, healthy food.

Jenise - All I can say is that I hope that Disney Grapefruit thing tastes better than it looks? Although not sure I would volunteer to try it unless at the end of a long period of military reserves duty...

cheers,

Mike

Jenise, Hi.....

Yccch! If my mother had ever baked anythng that looked like that Disney Grapefruit Cake, I would have run away from home at the age of 9, never to darken her kitchen again.

You got my wondering why/where this Disney cake came from, Daniel, so I googled. It's apparently a popular item at the Brown Derby restaurant (based on the famed old Hollywood eatery) at Disney World. Here's a picture of the real thing:

It's kind of sweetly amusing that the person who posted so proudly of their cake on that recipe board thought they nailed it.

Now, now David, you just have to take it in the Jefferson Airplane-esque spirit. Those mushrooms need caterpillars sitting on top of them.
