Happy Thanksgiving or?

by Karen/NoCA » Wed Nov 24, 2010 11:27 pm

If you celebrate it or don't, have a wonderful day with family, friends and co-workers, doing what ever it is that you are going to do today. Be safe, happy and above all...give something to someone! Even a smile can brighten a day for a lonely person.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Spun our dried out sage in the blender this morning, and got the turkey in the smoker. It's cold out there, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Happy Thanksgiving to all as well and keep those who are unfortunate, away from home and in need of a prayer in your thoughts.

Have a great day. I wish you and yours the best during this holiday season.

Carl, how do you dry your sage? I am thinking you pluck the leaves and dry them inside, and do not rip out the plant? I grow sage and have never dried it. I also grow other herbs including tarragon, and have never dried it either. what other herbs do you grow and dry after the growing season?

Hi Bob,
Not Carl, but here is how we dry our sage. Clip some stems an then tie the stems together with a twist tie or rubber band. Then hang to dry in a cool dry place....we use our pantry. Once dry, the leaves, are "picked" and placed in an airtight container. Other herbs we dry are dill, basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme. We have found it best to pick the herbs in the morning after any dew has dried.
We haven't dried tarragon in years, but treat it much the same as sage.

We just cut the sage branches about six inches above the ground. We removed all the leaves from the branches and wash and spin dry them. We take the best leaves and freeze them in folds of aluminmum foil to use "fresh." We then spread out the others in a large closely woven basket. It takes about five days for them to completely dry in our dry house. We shake the basket and toss the leaves every day.

Do the same with French Tarragon.
