Jenn-Air Question

by Howie Hart » Sun Nov 21, 2010 12:11 pm

The range I'm currently using was my mother's very old Kenmore electric. In fact, it's so old the original color is Harvest Gold, that I re-painted several years ago with appliance paint, but at the time, it was better than what I had. Yesterday, I was given a Jenn-Air, 30 inch, dual fuel with gas cooktop and electric convection oven. It's not the latest model (black glass front), but it has all the accessories - griddle, grill, burners, etc. Apparently it's been stored in a garage for several years, so it needs some cleaning. I'm going to have to run a gas line to installation area, so I have some work to do before I get around to putting it in. My question is in regards the ventilation system. I searched online and can't seem to find out how the ventilation fan and ductwork is installed. The exhaust fan is a separate unit with a short cord that plugs into an outlet on the end of a short cord at bottom of the range. Both the inlet and outlet of the fan are round (6" I believe). My question is "How do I mount the exhaust fan?" Does it mount directly on the floor or wall? Do I cut a hole in the kitchen floor and run ductwork to the outside of the house from the basement. The installation area is located against an exterior wall. Can I just cut through the wall to the outside? Or can I do either one?

Howie, do you have a Home Depot or Lowe's near you? They are really great about answering questions like this, especially if you take in pictures. They will sit down with you, discuss it and send you home with the parts you need. Actually, a good full service hardware store might be abe to assit you, as well.

Howie-
Found this on the Jenn-aire website. If you plug in your model number, you may be able to download a manual?

Howie, I just read your post to my husband--he's a mechanical engineer and we've recently considered all of this in our kitchen remodel. He can be of help, but first: yours has a downdraft ventilation system attached to the stove, it's not a separate overhead hood?

Howie, Bob found this:

Should be your model or at least close enough.

Thanks for that link Jenise. That answers my questions. I knew somebody here would come through. :)
