Another little reason I like living in the sticks

by Redwinger » Wed Aug 11, 2010 10:20 am

It was already up to 80F. by about 7:30 and I was going to wimp out on my morning stroll, but then remembered we were just about out of eggs. So I walked the 1.5 miles to the local farm purveyor of farm fresh eggs, fresh poultry and natural beef. After an enthusiastic greeting from the 7 or 8 farms dogs $2 changes hands and I get my dozen eggs. As I turn to leave she asks if I'm going straight home.
Sure.
She then hands me a 1lb package of ground beef and says "Thanks for coming by".

Doesn't that make you feel better about them when they invite friends to come along to your party? ;)

I kinda figured you'd bring that up when I posted this.

All kidding aside, that's the kind of native generosity I was trying to get at. It works in both directions, and I assume it comes out of a long-time culture of nobody having much but sharing what they had.

That type of kindness happens to me at the Farmer's Market often. I have regular grower's that I like to buy from, they throw in extras sometimes when I inquire about something unusual or make a comment about how good something was last week. Just being greeted happily by the dogs is a great way to start your day. :D

I don't mean to sound like an old hippie, but life really is about our relationships with other people. You don't get the same sort of human interaction when you buy your eggs from the supermarket. It's the reason why we now buy all our produce from people we know at the markets. This is a lovely story Bill, thanks!

PS. So tell us about the party they invited their friends to.. :)

C-
Here's the thread from a few days ago. BTW, my "Egg Lady" was not one of the invitees.
