A really nice burger bun recipe

by Celia » Mon Jul 26, 2010 2:14 pm

I've just tried this recipe by my baking hero Dan Lepard and was absolutely delighted with the end results. They were really easy to make, and resulted in the perfect burger buns for dinner last night. There's more info on my blog...

"C" the bread looks fabulous! Quite heavy but with air pocket in the interior I can imagine many things it would go well with.

Not heavy, Bobby. Soft, fluffy white bread with a rich semolina flavour. The perfect combination! :)

You're so good. Never made my own burger buns; yours look beautiful. But...no lettuce? Oh, and are there beets in there?

"C" I wasn't dissing your bread at all, and hope you didn't think I was. The bread actually looks a lot like focaccia only thicker. I think of focaccia as heavy and perhaps a bit tough, and very delicious but then I also think of a typical baguette as somewhat heavy. Delicious but heavy. Re-reading what I wrote it dawns on me that I am speaking of breads made at an excellent small bakery about a mile from where I live, and one I buy from almost daily. Wish I had the fortitude (and time) to try baking, in my Kooker.

Jenise, no lettuce, didn't have any in the fridge, and burgers were a last minute decision. And no beets - they've all been turned into roasted beetroot dip.. :)

Bobby, I would never ever think you were dissing me! I was just clarifying - these are quite different to the breads we normally make, which are hard-crusted sourdoughs. Because they have semolina, honey and yoghurt added, the bread is like a sophisticated soft white bun. :)

Wow Celia...those look AMAZING! I would love to have my burger in one of those. Or even better, what us NJians call an "Italian Hotdog"...those buns look perfect for one. Now I want one!

Those indeed do look delicious. I am picturing one sliced, toasted and buttered. Yum!
