Coffee ice cream recipe needed

by Christina Georgina » Wed Jun 30, 2010 11:53 pm

Making good use of the new Cuisinart ICE-20. The boys want coffee ice cream now and the accompanying recipe is suspect: 2T instant espresso or coffee. Any suggestions ?

I would imagine you could make some espresso and freeze it in an ice cube tray a crush it in a blender before adding. As an addition you could make some chocolate covered espresso beans.

Christina,
Aren't those great little machines?! When my husband comes home tonight, I'll ask which coffee recipe he uses. It is deeeeeeelish!

Okay, my husband admits that all the recipes he's used so far are from the world wide web; nothing original.

Here are the links for cinnamon and a site that has tons of recipes. Go to the "unusual ice cream link" for the coffee recipe. I've also included a good looking coffee ice cream recipe by David Lebovitz that we have not tried, but it looks worthy.

Thanks Julia, that Lebovitz one looks like the ticket for deep flavor. When I try it I'll let you know.
Just can't see how ordinary coffee, even very strong coffee can hold the flavor in frozen cream

I wouldn't discount the instant espresso powder, either. I have occasionally used it as a sprinkle on tiramisu. It's potent and leaves no grinds. I think I used Medaglia d'Oro brand.

The Simply Recipes version is IT !!! I made the mix today and will freeze tomorrow but I can tell it will taste just like I want it to - strong, rich flavors.
I made only one change and that is I used real vanilla bean rather than extract. I had 1 ghost and a half of a live bean steeped with the beans, cream, milk and sugar.
I would strongly caution NOT to get anywhere near boiling at either stage - the cream will curdle.

Thanks Julia
