What did I buy?

We (a wine group) went to an excellent Thai restaurant tonight. On the way out there is a fridge of desserts "to go". I took two:

1. A container of pumpkin-coconut custard, cut into cubes. I understand. Yum.

2. A container of rice-coconut-palm sugar patties. They are tasty but tough. Chewy chew chew. Chew. I don't understand.

Maybe these have to be loosened up before consuming? It seems funny to heat them. Maybe soak in milk for an hour or two? Anybody know whether and how to prepare these?

Sounds like some sticky-rice kind of item. I will ask the owner of a Thai restaurant here in DC and hope to get an answer back to you within a few days.

Thanks, Jon. If it helps: Each patty is about the diameter of a silver dollar and maybe a half-inch thick. The coconut and rice are mixed together. The palm sugar is brown and is dabbed on both sides.

Sorry, Jeff - I got nada. I went to my local Thai restaurant where I go at least once a week and know all the staff by name. I had printed out your description and showed it to the manager. Bom read it and was not able to say what it might be, although he agreed that sticky rice was most likely involved. He offered that that many Thai places develop their own, unique, to-go desserts, especially in NYC. He simply had no idea. Now, if you had a picture, he could possible make an informed quess. Sorry - I'm dissapointed that I didn't come up with anything.
