BTN: In-N-Out

by Salil » Sun Jun 27, 2010 5:25 pm

Finally made it to the much hyped In-N-Out Burger while in Petaluma. Ordered the double-double (2 patties, 2 slices of cheese with grilled onions, tomato and mustard) and well-done fries. The burger comes pretty close to living up to the hype - certainly the best burger I've eaten in a restaurant/burger joint, and one of the best I've eaten anywhere (though the burgers at Schloss Bueker in CT are still my gold standard ;)).

The fries were even better than the burger. Spectacularly good, really crisp, fresh and really dry on the inside without being anywhere near oily. (My dad is a vegetarian, but still came along for the fries and thought they were the best he's ever had.) I'll have to head back to In-n-Out before I head back.

It gets better! We just got into San Francisco this evening (and are staying at Fisherman's Wharf). Our hotel is about 4 blocks walk from another In-N-Out! :D :D :D

(My dad and I both grabbed an order of the well done fries this evening after dinner, in lieu of dessert. I'm an addict.)

You know, I never understood the whole In-N-Out craze. I'm an LA guy, so it's taken for granted that I just have to love In-N-Out, but it's really just a simple burger in my opinion. It's very nicely done, especially for fast food, but it's still not something I'd go out of my way to eat.

I'm glad you got the experience, though. You can't come to Cali without having at least one double double.
