Looking for places to dine

by Armand Carriveau » Wed Jun 23, 2010 6:33 pm

on the northern Oregon/southern Washington coast, say an hour north or south of Astoria. Have not been in the area in over ten years, so am out of touch. Wife is having a BD while in the area, so would something appropriate. Can any of you nor-westers help me out?

Armand, absolutely do not miss The Port Bistro in Ilwaco. The food is inspired and very well-executed--well above everything else in the area and what you might expect in a small tourism-oriented town. Beware, though, that you and your wife not wear cologne or perfume that day--the chef there has severe allergies and a roomfull of smelly people would put him right over the edge. They have signs posted all over to that effect but it's helpful ....

Oh damn. Just called a friend who lives in Chinook..the Bistro closed. In her opinion the Depot, which is in Seaview between Ilwaco and Long Beach, is the best restaurant on the Washington side, also the Shelburne Inn which I recall eating at about ten years ago and loving it then. She also mentioned the Silver Salmon and the Dreamy Daisy, but I didn't get any details on those. Yelp might have more information.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Thanks for the help Jenise. Any particular oyster shacks you can recommend. The wife likes em straight out of the shell. Not quite sure what a Dreamy Daisy is although I did locate the Silver Salmon.
