And I'm thinking:

(a) She keeps a clean kitchen
(b) There are two microwave ovens in the kitchen
(c) I'll continue to do my lasagne in the oven, thank you.

Daniel, what I was thinking when I watched this isn't printable. :) But I'll give her this: her presentation was very poised. Definitely exceeded the quality of her food!

Well, if that wasn't shocking. She had me curiously watching until she grabbed the detergent and actually washed the dishes. I thought it would cook with the dry cycle. If I were a guest and the hostess did that, I'd suggest ordering a pizza . No way would I eat that lasagne. Twice she pulled her hair behind her ears prior to picking up a pasta sheet. How about the one cup of spinach for four people? One cup would reduce down to nothing.

I've seen this in a couple of new homes, the Realtor said the top one was for the adults and the bottom one for the children in the family. Another house had younger children and the microwave was even lower, about thigh high. Personally, I thought it a bad idea, having microwaves easily accessible for younger children.

What, you think that the two year old microwaving kitty cat is a bad idea? (yes -- that was intended as a joke)

Of course it's a bad idea! Everybody knows that cats have to be deep-fried to be any good.

Exactly what I thought when I saw the one about thigh high. I made a comment to the realtor about that happening...she looked horrified.

Reminds me of cooking on your engine block (what some call "carbecue").

Of course, there is a book, "Manifold Destiny": http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0375751408

And a wiki: http://www.wikihow.com/Cook-Food-on-Your-Car%27s-Engine
...which notes that cooked shrimp takes 30-50 miles but trout or salmon need 60-100 miles.

Carbecue...haven't heard that term before, but it's great. When I was a child, my great uncle who drove a cement truck for a living once dropped by to share a canned ham. It had been "roasting" all day.

When Gene and I first moved to Redding from the coast, folks told us Redding was famous because you could fry an egg on the sidewalk. The population here was only 15,000 and I guess folks had to entertain themselves.

I'm trying to perfect a way to wash the dishes in the oven.

I recall reading about cooking dinner in dishwasher some years ago.

Google came up with Salmon cooked in a dishwasher in a 1995 book The Surreal Gourmet EnterTains: High-Fun, Low-Stress Dinner Parties for 6 to 12 People [by Bob Blumer,

Re microwave ovens. I don't have one but when we spent 2.5 months in a holiday apartment without a proper oven but equipped with a microwave I was frustrated at how small the thing is; heating up a prepared meal for 3 required containers 'cooked' in batches. I can see why two of these machines would be better than one.

Good one Matilda! My neighbor across the street stores her dirty dishes in the oven, so she doesn't have to wash them right away. I always kid her that one day she will open the oven and the dishes will be washed.

The mind boggles at what other so far unrevealed 'unconventional uses ' for household appliances this woman may have stumbled upon....

Not a big fan of novelty cooking. I do own and use a microwave, but use it mostly for thawing and zapping my breakfast 'poached' eggs much more quickly and with not much worse result than the traditional method. Use the time saved to see what's happening here!

My wife Jean will occasionally broil something in our oven and nearly always leaves the used broiler pan in the oven to get it out of the way. I, the designated kitchen cleaner, invariably forget to the check the oven for dirty 'dishes', with the result that the broiler pan will remain undiscovered until I next use the oven and notice an odd smell issuing forth from the heating oven. You'd think that after 20 years of marriage I'd be wise to all her tricks, but no...

Not as bad as the one where I stuffed a chicken in a baking pan in the oven to finish thawing and my little helpmate chose that time to put the oven on self cleaning cycle without first looking inside.....
