I've seen this in a couple of new homes, the Realtor said the top one was for the adults and the bottom one for the children in the family. Another house had younger children and the microwave was even lower, about thigh high. Personally, I thought it a bad idea, having microwaves easily accessible for younger children.

What, you think that the two year old microwaving kitty cat is a bad idea? (yes -- that was intended as a joke)

Of course, there is a book, "Manifold Destiny": http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0375751408
And a wiki: http://www.wikihow.com/Cook-Food-on-Your-Car%27s-Engine
...which notes that cooked shrimp takes 30-50 miles but trout or salmon need 60-100 miles.

I, the designated kitchen cleaner, invariably forget to the check the oven for dirty 'dishes', with the result that the broiler pan will remain undiscovered until I next use the oven and notice an odd smell issuing forth from the heating oven. You'd think that after 20 years of marriage I'd be wise to all her tricks, but no...
