I took a look, Jenise and, like you, I'm not impressed. When I use skewers, I always need two to keep the food from rotating and, thus, cooking on the same side all the time. Traditional skewers fit the bill for me. I’d be interested if the flexible ones can, by increased friction or pressure, keep food from rotating, then I might be a buyer.

Exactly Jon. Most skewer are square rods for a reason, and I can only imagine the way food would spin on that cable. It's flexibility might, in fact, make that even worse!

While Williams - Sonoma is a favorite catalog of mine, I've noticed they are coming out with a wide array of useless things which take up storage room, and many are going to be hard to keep clean. I just ordered this thing, and am wondering why I did it. We are still playing with it, but I certainly did not need it.

The mesh roasting pan doesn't do it for me. I have one grill toy that I find very useful (a perforated pan) and I'd like to get one more (fish basket).

As to those skewers... it might be nice to bend the skewers a bit because my grill is round and small. But I don't think that alone is worth the effort.

@ Karen: I think that wide array of useless things (well put) is what they've always been so good at, and furthermore that's what makes the catalog a compelling read. It's just kind of fun looking at what some people will buy--and it's a good thing my MIL never got that catalog, she was the queen of useless things. Always thought the gadget would somehow remedy her otherwise insurmountable lack of talent.

@Jeff: I ended up getting one of those perforated baskets, too, after watching a friend grill off a basket of exquisite zucchini. Crowding wasn't the problem I thought it be, and his results were fantastic. Otherwise, I have some skewers that are cast iron and shaped very irregular like tree twigs, so very good looking AND the kabobnesses don't twirl, and that's it for special BBQ things.

I have the perforated pan for the veggies, a big black thing that is much easier to clean. I just may use the other from Williams-Sonoma to drain lettuce. :D Or maybe to collect tomatos from my garden. They'd be already for a trip to the sink and a quick rinse.
