Gracie Allen's Roast Beef Recipe

by Jenise » Wed Mar 10, 2010 12:15 pm

(Gracie Allen was a beloved American comedienne from the early days of radio, and wife of comedian/actor George Burns.)

1 large beef roast
1 small beef roast

Take the two roasts and put them in the oven.
When the little one burns, the big one is done.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

HA HA

The last several times my wife has been making bacon our dining room smoke alarm has gone off (think it just needs a thorough cleaning, it's a little over sensitive) and I've been teasing her, ala Ron White, that the bacon is done "before that particular buzzer goes off". Smoke alarm's not a timer, hon.

When my parents remodeled their kitchen, they took the cook top and moved it out to what they called the "third garage. It was just an extra room next to the garage, which they parked mixers, bread makers, etc. They hooked up the cook top next to the big window, installed a fan and cooked anything greasy or stinky. Anymore Gene and I cook such things outside on the burner included with the grill. The burner went unused for years on his huge stainless grill and one day the light bulb came on in my head. Now we use it for all bacon cooking, and messy sauté recipes. It is wonderful not to have to do that in the house.

When I was house-hunting I remember several houses that had been lived in by Italian families keeping up the old traditions of semi-self-sufficiency and extended family cooperation. These places had a second kitchen built into a shed separate from the house, with stove, benches, sinks, the works. This was where they would make tomato sauce, pickles, sausages, and all the other various food products that provided the backbone of their cuisine.
