So there I was having lunch in Vancouver yesterday....

...and I heard a voice, heavily accented and distinct. I know him, I thought, and looked up to find....

So what happened? Did you go for lunch, get caught up with the protestors, slip on the ice? What? Curious minds need to know. :D

Yeah, Ted Allen WISHES!

Oh, and I embarrassed myself. I heard the voice, looked up, and was so shocked to see him that I involuntarily blurted out, "JESUS CHRIST THERE'S DANIEL BOULUD." Bob gave me the funniest look since those first two are words which, used in that way, have never been in my vocabulary (I was shocked at myself too), but I don't believe I was overheard at their table.

Karen, there's no ice to slip on up there. It was 64 F! I was actually there to see the event below, lunch out was just something both nice and neccessary.

Fantastic seats, fourth row, and since Finland won 5-0 and Russia defended my end in the 1st and 3rd segments, the action was mostly right in front of us the whole time. Great game.

Did you know he had lasik surgery? I'm not kidding. Apparently he was having trouble seeing up close. I’m not surprised considering those telescopes he was wearing for glasses.

On a serious note (really!) I have never before seen a photo of Daniel Boulud with glasses on. Doubting my sanity, I just peeked at Google Images and I appear not to have been mistaken. You might have a collector's item there, Jenise.

My Sister, who is a straight married lady, plays ice hockey on a team in San Francisco. The first time I watched one of her matches, I was surprised to see that she was the only female on the rink. When I asked her why she was playing in a man’s league she told me that in San Francisco she would basically get her butt kicked in the woman’s league.

Hey, I saw some of those Finnish girls in their street clothes and they're closer to Swedish Bikini Team than roller derby. Though, of course, I'm not neccessarily the best judge of that!

Really? Looks familiar to me. Mebbe cuz I watched his After Hours series on one of the alt cable channels? Can't swear to it, but that's where I've seen more Daniel than anywhere else, so perhaps that's where I've seen him frequently in glasses, same ones as in this picture.

Oh man. You lucky so-and-so. The only crabs I catch around here have to be treated with permethrin.

Sounds tempting. But the commute would kill me.
