Snow cream

by Robert Reynolds » Sat Feb 06, 2010 11:37 am

With all the snow talk on the F&F side, I jsut had a childhood memory pop into my head. On the rare occasions when northern Georgia got more than a dusting of snow, Mom would go out with her largest mixing bowl, and fill it with the clean new snow. She'd then stir in sugar and whole milk, pop it in the freezer until it set up again, and we'd all pig out on delicious snow cream. Even my Dad liked it, and he rarely ate sweets. :D Anybody else here ever done that?

Yep! Evaporated milk and sugar. But, somehow I didn't trust ice cream off the ground! It wasn't one of my favorites. :?

We would fill bowls with fresh snow and pour maple syrup on top.

Ah...childhood memory of fresh snow with raspberry syrup sprinkled over.

We don't to that in Buffalo. It must be a novelty thing. :?

I actually haven't tried "natures" snow cones before even though I'm a lover of the kind you make in a machine. :)

However, I must admit to taking a small mouthful of PLAIN and FRESH snow when I was little. Not wise perhaps but I have done it... ;)

This reminds me of the place I seen on the Food Network once where they bottle their own water direct from rainfall. The name of them escapes me but I believe they simply name it "Rain Water". I'm sure a search could easily bring them up. I remember finding the concept fascinating when I was watching it.
