What a buy!

by Larry Greenly » Fri Dec 11, 2009 1:58 pm

I bought two German Schott Zweisel crystal (sherry?) glasses at a thrift store yesterday for 50 cents each. And they were new, with the factory stickers still on them. :D

Geez, I'd love to have those!

Congratulations on a phenomenal deal.

It's why I haunt thrift stores. They don't have a clue what stuff is worth. They might charge $4 for an empty Campbell's tomato soup can, but only $1 for a Calphalon skillet.

Very cool deal. That trumps my ebay deal on some Waterford brandy snifters all to heck. Ever find Waterford?

Yes, I found three Waterford crystal wineglasses for, I think, $1 apiece. Someone evidently broke the fourth one in their set.

Cool! I always imagine that the people who do intake at these thriftstores get some knowledge about what's valuable and scoop those things up for themselves or resale. Like with Waterford, onesies and twosies sell easily on ebay and most of the time for very good money too, so the lack of a set isn't the loss someone might have thought. It's pretty stuff--I'm not into having a bunch of it or any sets myself, but it's a lovely thing to look through cut crystal when sitting around the fireplace, so that's why I decided to buy a few snifters.
