What is on (not in) your refrigerator?

by Dave R » Sun Nov 29, 2009 3:37 pm

A new colleague of mine invited Jody and I over for dinner last night. She and her husband have a fantastic kitchen but one thing that really caught my attention was the refrigerator. It was adorned top to bottom with pictures of beautiful meals. I asked what that was about and she said that whenever she makes a meal that the family loves she takes a picture and sticks it on the refrigerator so when the kids want something specific for dinner, they just point at one of the pictures.

I really did not know what to think of that, but I do not have kids and when I was growing up we just ate what was served. But this got me thinking…what’s on your refrigerator? Pictures of food? Pictures that your children have drawn? Report cards? Finger prints?

*Edited to correct awful grammar. Thanks for not mentioning it, Larry.

On top are oatmeal, cereals, crackers, dried fruits, some flour, etc. On the side are calendars, coupons and appt reminders.

Our previous refrigerator was covered in magnets, kid's stickers, and anything else that could attach itself. The replacement refrigerator is much nicer (and the kids are now older) so it only has a couple of magnets on it.

The idea of putting pictures of meals on the front is pretty neat.

I think it's great too! Very clever and a good interactive tool for children. But alas, nothing on my refrigerator. I think the cats might appreciate some pictures of prime rib and roast chicken, but that's not going to happen. :)

Nothing is on or on top of my refer, It is a built in Sub-Zero, floor to ceiling. Doors are the same as the cabinets...so no magnets, either. When the kids were home, I posted the week's menu, their cute drawings from school, etc. Now I get to have the sleek and clean look. :D

Nothing on the front or top of mine either. I'm like Karen I guess--no clutter. On the fridge or anywhere else.

On top is a blue, footed, trifle bowl. Perched inside the bowl is a hand-painted rooster pitcher. Left of the bowl is an empty bottle of 20-year-old calvados, right of the bowl is an empty, pretty red tin of amarettini.

On the side is the city's notice about recycling, a little chart of species names of over-fished fishes, a magnetic pocket that has the shopping list and the supermarket 'frequent shopper' cards and a pen in it, some extra magnets.

On the front is a print of the jardins potager de Versailles (held up by a magnetic picture frame), and a whole bunch of magnets: a reproduction of a crescent moon drawn by Leonardo da Vinci, the tartan of Clan Lamont, four miniature wine bottles, three snapshots from "I Love Lucy", an advertisement for Fairy Soap, two piece of plastic sushi, a fabric pumpkin, and five faux 1950's images with clever sayings. (I've omitted a couple of coupons, the map to a box of chocolates, and a hand-written list of restaurants that specialize in paella.)

On top is my coffee grinder, filters and container of French roast coffee beans. The coffee maker is on the counter next to the fridge. On the front are pictures of my kids and grandchildren, including this one of my 6-month old granddaughter, Isabella, dressed as a bunny for Halloween.

No, Carrie, she's a bunny. Notice the ears.
