Braeburn Apples. Yay!

by Hoke » Sun Nov 08, 2009 1:46 pm

Just can't resist jumping in and proclaiming how absolutely delicious the Braueburns are this season. My local chain, New Seasons, is very apple conscious and they have tremendous selections of apples, most locally grown, most organically grown. Lots of heirloom choices.

But my permanent fall back apple is the Braeburn, without a doubt. And right now the Braeburns are superb. Super-super-super firm and crackly crisp when you bite into them, marvelously fragrant and juicy, wonderfully tart and spicy and sweet-sour----everything I like about Braeburns emphasized!

I do believe I'll have another one right now!

Thanks for the hint. I love Braeburns too, and right now I'm in kind of an apple phase. But I'm getting confused any more, with all the global growing and sending things back and forth, which of the non-standard apples are good at what times of the year. I know I've bought apples that I thought should have been close to just-picked and of the super crisp varieties I favor, and have not always been pleased.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Hoke,
This year, we've been enjoying the virtues of Honeycrisps from Michigan. Sweet, tart, good texture and great acidity.

Uh huh. Munch on those occasionally. Also Gala (Gala is especially good with a good sharp cheddar cheese, btw). But the new profligacy of apples, including some I've never had before, in my local apple-crazy market (think Whole Foods, but better, and locally owned and focused) is in such dizzying variety it's been a whole new world out there.
