Cooking sites are my downfall

by Karen/NoCA » Tue Nov 03, 2009 8:44 pm

As I cleaned out and organized my freezer today, I realized that I have to stop looking at new recipes. In my freezer I have 10 lbs. of Hatch Chili's, 12 cups of applesauce, 12 cups of turkey stock, persimmon , strawberry and nectarine jams, all sorts of frozen berries and cherries, 20 cups of various tomato sauces, three bags of pesto bricks, then there is the beef, chicken, fish, some lamb, and the bean dishes, soups, enchiladas, pulled pork that I make to take on impromptu RV trips. I've vowed, that for the rest of this month, to eat out of the freezer and pantry (Thanksgiving is the exception) and not buy anything except veggies and salad making foods. Do you ever get overloaded with stuff in the freezer and have to move it out? Our diet is bigger on veggies, salads and whole grains than meats, and I am a bit lopsided right now.

How lucky we are!!!

I couldn't put a stick of butter into my freezer. We're slowly eating our way through it, but since I gave up lunches several months ago, it's a bit slower than before.

Must be an epidemic. We are doing the same - eating down the freezer. Since sending our son off to college we have made a concerted effort. It actually is difficult as we are having leftovers from the stuff made with freezer goods. Have not yet correctly judged portions for two. I like the challenge of coming up with creative uses for some of the items. Like others, lots of stocks-- fish, vegetable and mixed meat -so soup and salad, risotto and salad, braised meats have been regular menu items. Hoping to see the light inside the freezer before Thanksgiving.

Well, we have been "two" for a long time and I still cannot get it. I am going to make it happen.

Your freezer sounds just like mine. It is so full that I can't get another else in it! I keep promising myself that I will start using food from the freezer.

I have a friend who could say that about her freezer. But I hope yours isn't as bad as hers: it's full of little plastic containers with a half a cup of this and two tablespoons that. She can't STAND to throw anything away, so the result is a freezer, and in some ways a refrigerator, that actually can't be used as God intended it. I don't think she's seen past the front four inches in years.

Close, but not quite. Mine's full of real food. I'm a squirrel; when I see a deal, I buy it.
