Kitchen Remodel Week 39

by Jenise » Sat Oct 31, 2009 4:56 pm

Another week closes. This week, only two things happened, but they're important. My granite guy finished fabricating and installed the pillars that will be the structural support system for the elevated service counter that will separate my primary prep station from the eating counter for guests. Then he and I met with the glass fabricator who is going to create the 1" thick narrow reed glass panels that will fill in the space between the pillars. Until that glass goes in, the black anticado granite counters on the prep side can't be installed. This could take a few weeks. I might not be cooking Thanksgiving dinner after all. Nothing goes fast, does it?

In the meantime the sun came out today and gave me a chance to get a pretty good photograph of that special, one of a kind slab of granite that shows the metallic qualities and what the fabricator rightly called "river effect".

The good thing about granite is that you should be able to get that burnt cheese off of there with little effort. :D

That granite is really amazing...

Isn't it? Mother Nature does some really fine work when you let her.

I'd say spectacular....It's great when style, color, function and practicality all come together.

We're getting there! The glass panels went in last Friday.

Oh, and as of yesterday, that ugly shelf with all the $#it on it you see in the background, the former trophy case? It's not there anymore, either!

Well, if it takes any longer I'll have to take up with Hamburger Helper just for variety. :)

It's looking fantastic, Jenise. Congratulations again on finally nearing the end to your nightmare. And that granite is unique and beautiful. It's beautiful enough for me to take marble for granite.

I thought at first you were posting a picture of a moonscape. I mean, it has the indentations or bubbles and the "stony" notes. Is the granite more even than it looks?

It's completely flat, as you see in the picture with the glass. But looking down on it, it's like looking into the bottom of a still river.
