Energy Star Labeling Might Mislead American Consumers

by Jenise » Mon Oct 19, 2009 12:11 pm

Cuz the dadgumgummint hasn't been policing or requiring outside testing of appliances sold with that label. Apparently one manufacturer, LG of Korea, has been singled out as a consistent underperformer, and if you own an LG appliance you might be entitled to a new circuit board. Here's the NYTimes article on the subject:

Jenise, I don't know for sure if this is true, but about a year ago I was in the market for a new fridge, and was looking at several brands. Among the brands were LG and Samsung, and the clerk told me that both of those brands had been singled out for not meeting the requirements for the Energy Star label. I wound up buying a Maytag, which I think is a subsidiary of GE.

Apparently. But obviously you keep up with things better than I and the NYT. :)

Not really. Just a proud owner of an LG refrigerator.
