What a coinky-dink!

We were talking here not long ago about Steak-Umms, and I just saw an ad on TV advertising them--the first time I've seen them in decades. Were they snooping around here?

Strictly guy food, american style, Matilda.

Steak--Umms is a brand of frozen meats that is packaged as very, very, almost translucently thin, slices of meat. Ostensibly, you can just peel off a strip or two and throw it on a flat grill or in a pan and it frys/sautees up super-quick. Most people just pop it in the pan and throw it on sandwich bread or a hoagie roll, although I know some people who use it as the base for making a home-made version of a Philly cheesesteak.

It's just a particularly egregious (and greasy) form of convenience food, thassall.

Growing up in Pennsylvania, we frequently bought Steak-Umms to cook as home-made Philly Cheesesteaks (they're made in PA). They are what they are. I remember them from decades ago as okay fare, but I haven't tasted one in probably over 30 years. It appears they may be going national, after seeing that TV ad.

Hey, c'mon the true Philly cheesteak, ingested before every Dallas / Eagles game and lately Phillies / Dodgers game is thinly sliced flank steak with melted provolone. Don't let the servers at Geno's tell you any different. I may live in Cali now but I know the real cheesesteak. And slam it down with Chianti!
