It's called a Peter Pepper. Seriously. I'm not making this up. You can buy seeds and grow them in your own garden. And yes they all look like that, though some look a little less, um, circumsized.

Yeah, they're a hoot. There are also yellow peter peppers for those with oriental proclivities. Seeds are around $5.00/25 seeds.

Scandalous and amusing at the same time. Some info online states that they're 10 times hotter than jalapenos. I'm a little dumbfounded by these . . . . although I am curious . . . . don't think I could get away with growing them, and probably wouldn't have any use for such a hot pepper anyway.

One must understand that throughout North Africa and the Middle-East, the hot pepper is given no less adoration than God him/heself.

Despite which the "Peter Pepper" was introduced in markets from Sharm el Sheikh to Tel Aviv and from Beirut to Tunis several years ago and failed terribly - the men of both the Moslem and Jewish religions (women are rarely this stupid) declaring that these were obscene and thus in violation of the laws of both the Prophet Mohammed and the Torah.

The local versions were indeed super-hot and thus magnificent in sauces such as berbere and zhug, but who among us dares refute those wise, wise men of religion?*

Best and truly ROFLMAO
Rogov

*One may wish to note that the Christian clergy, probably in a show of great wisdom, issued no statements whatever about Peter Peppers.

I've known those for decades, and grown them a few times. They are indeed hot as blazes. :D

Good grief. There's a lesson in selective breeding, I suppose. I've never seen these.

All of which brings a host of "dirty jokes" to mind. Be of good cheer, however, as I am not about to tell any of those jokes. 8)

I was probably thinking much worse thoughts than you, Rogov dear. In particular, I have a single acquaintance who is what one might refer to as one uptight mean little bitch. A bright red penile substitute might be just what she needs. I would, of course, tell her they're very mild. 8)

Pffftt. I thought that you were going to say that you'd tell her that they make a stimulating...substitute, Jenise. FWIW, my book of chili peppers describes this variety as "ornamental."
