Smoked Spanish Paprika

by Karen/NoCA » Sat Sep 19, 2009 1:49 pm

I'm placing my yearly order from Penzey. Has anyone tried their smoked paprika? The last time I purchased Pimenton De La Vera from Power-Selles Imports out of Seattle WA. Is there a big difference in smoked paprikas?

Karen,

I use Spice Island smoked paprika, and I couldn't get along without it. I use it in bbq sauce, also sprinkled over nearly every meat I grill. Things like steaks, pork chops, burgers etc, about any flat cut of meat, I also use it in a bbq 1 rub I make(Chef Joseph's). I probably won't be making that for a while though as I just purchased a 5lb bag of bbq rub from Zach's spices. Honestly I couldn't possibly make it for what I can buy it, even including shipping. see them at: http://shop.zachspice.com/main.sc;jsess ... cstrfrnt01

I am NFI$ just a satisfied customer.

What a wonderful spice it is. I'm not aware of great differences, but even a ludicrously cheap tin of it is full of flavour (I used some tonight on a fried mushroom side dish)

With all dried spices, freshness is just about the most important factor. I haven't bought this from them myself, but you can't buy fresher than Penzey's.

I really love Penzey's products and service. I especially like that they always include samples, usually spices that I have never heard of or tried. It encourages me to look for new recipes for ideas.

Me too. I've created several dishes around Penzeys freebies - herb de provence and tuscan sunset. I got Greek seasoning in my last order, so I need to work up something with that. I also got a free jar of pasta sprinkle by using the code on the card on the catalog. I think the new catalog is offering free cinnamon.

I also have the smoked spanish paprika. I like it fine, but don't use it all that often.

Been using several different styles of La Chinata in rubs, seasonings etc. Have absolutely no problem with them.
