Not so sad. The food has been terrible for ages. The atmosphere in the restaurant is that of a cheesy bar mitzvah. The only magnificent aspect of that restaurant -- and, make no mistake, it was magnificent -- was the way they lit up the trees in the backyard (Central Park).

It's not sad, Jenise. It's about time!

I don't feel the same way about Cafe Des Artiste, however. I'm sad to see that one go.

It is always sad when a business you have owned and operated goes under, and it is horrifying to see the news in print. Been there! Just this week a really nice outdoor furniture, spa type place announced closing. Because we needed new patio furniture, we went to see what they had. The look on the owners faces was sad...they held on as long as they could. The good news is that with the 30% off they were giving, the beautiful stuff went fast, and they will be able to get out sooner than expected. I felt guilty buying from them at this time, but frankly, the prices they were selling for was more than I wanted to spend on outdoor furniture that takes a beating.

Yikes! Had no idea. I had instead thought that Tavern was to NY as Commanders Palace was to New Orleans--not cutting edge, but a venerable old, beloved institution, run by same fam for decades yada yada.

A major problem was that the food might have been good kitchen side, but the kitchen was so far from most tables, the waiters' routes were difficult, and many of the waiters didn't seem to care. Cold food was the norm.

The scenery was magnificent, however.
