What do you recommend for a new convection toaster oven?

by Dave R » Sat Sep 05, 2009 3:03 pm

My DeLonghi countertop convection toaster oven finally passed away after probably eight years of solid service. It died quickly and painlessly in the middle of cooking bacon wrapped diver scallops last night. I’m sure that is the way it wanted to go out. On its own terms.

A couple friends of mine have Cuisinart countertop convection ovens and seem to like them. My sister claims DeLonghi is the only suitable replacement. Another friend has an Oster (sp?) but says the heating is uneven.

So, I ask the experts...what do you recommend for a new convection toaster oven?

As always, thanks for the advice.

If it were mine, I'd at least think about repairing it. They're not that complex. See http://home.howstuffworks.com/how-to-repair-small-appliances2.htmand be sure to click on the troubleshooting link to see what the problem might be. It could be something very simple and inexpensive.

I have the Cuisinart toaster oven (not convection), and I'm satisfied with it. I have put it to more use baking and broiling meals over the last 8 months than all the toaster ovens in my life before that combined and in ways I've never used one before (with a real oven, one wouldn't have/want to), and I've actually been impressed that I've been able to do so much. Is it as good as or better than the De Longhi? I have no idea. Can I say that it works so well there couldn't be a better one? Don't know about that either, but: it generates and maintains satisfactory and relatively even heat such that I've baked biscuits in it, toasted bread, made potato splats, baked chicken pies, grilled sausages and all manner of other things above and beyond mere toast, and it never caught fire. It's easy to clean, and I haven't had to replace any parts. If I could wish for something I'd want to be able to adjust the shelf up or down half an inch, but that's just me.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
