Beware: Sweet Tabasco

by Jenise » Sat Sep 05, 2009 7:18 am

Looks so much like the regular Tabasco that I bought a bottle of Sweet Tabasco by mistake. Didn't realize they made such a thing. Nor did I realize the error until I went to pour the contents of said bottle into a zip loc bag full of chicken wings and wondered why it seemed so thick and unwilling to leave the bottle. I went ahead and used it at that point, recovering from my disappointment and thinking a bit of sweet heat on a chicken wing wouldn't neccessarily be a bad thing, but I have to say that ultimately I was disappointed. The wings marinated from earlyThursday morning until they were grilled off Friday night so they soaked for a generous 37 hours, and though they grilled up exceptionally pretty with a shiny jet black in all the dark places and a nice mahogany brown elsewhere, the end result had virtually no heat at all and worse, virtually none of that distinct Tabasco flavor. Avoid!

Sriracha makes a far, far better sweet-hot wing marinade.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Maybe a Minnesota shipment accidentally wound up in your part of the country.

Wow - never heard of this one up until now. The jalapeno and chipotle versions must be more common out here. Nice to know to stay away from the sweet stuff.

Well, that's what you get for using anything other than Frank's Hot Sauce on wings.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

Larry be nice to Minnesota and it's residents or we might quit being "Minnesota Nice"!

Where Miracle Whip is a spice. I was a Minnesooota resident, so I understand them. You betcha. And I still have my miniature bear trap for mosquitoes.
