Restaurants vs perfume

by Larry Greenly » Mon Aug 31, 2009 11:34 am

This is more of a complaint than anything else. During my Friday gig at Chez Axel, the front door opened and I immediately smelled patchouli. The offending woman sat on the other side of the restaurant, but I was so distracted by the overpowering smell that I was glad when my gig was over. >gak<

Don't these imbeciles understand how disgusting that should-be-illegal-to-wear stuff is? I'm just glad I wasn't eating there that night.

This is not only a problem in restaurants, but anywhere. Last week, while in my local supermarket, I noticed the shuttle bus from an independent living facility directly across the street from the market, pulling up in front of the store. This is a twice weekly occurrence. I love watching the perfectly groomed elderly men and women enter the store, toddle to their carts and head off into the aisles with a grin on their faces. Without doubt, each time I am there at the same time they are, some lovely lady has a ton of perfume on that takes my breath away, and it happened on this occasion, as well. I stopped wearing perfume years ago because of my volunteer work with hospitals. I got out of the habit and never went back. Now I find it totally disgusting to be in the presence of perfume, simply because some women have no clue they are supposed to use it lightly. There are other alternatives for ladies and men who wish to smell fresh and clean.

I have a special dislike for patchouli, which smells like bread mold. It always reminds me of unwashed hippies, who used to wear it.
