Melissa and $10.00 dinners

by Karen/NoCA » Tue Aug 11, 2009 12:10 pm

Has anyone watched the new Food Network star? She made an applesauce granita using jarred applesauce. I like the idea of an applesauce granita for dessert but why not go a step further and use fresh apples? Applesauce is so easy and fast to make...I would never use anything else. Her ratings for this recipe were high and people commented on the recipe being easy for busy moms, one with a small baby, and I can understand that. I'm going to make this soon and with a bit of tweaking, I think it will be a refreshing, light and interesting summer finish to a meal.

Karen, I haven't seen her show yet, but see that she has one on this Sunday. I'll try to catch it or set the DVR.
The applesauce granita sounds pretty good, especially with the maple yogurt. It's probably not something I would ever make, but I'll bet it would be good after a bbq rib dinner. (The pork/apple thing....)
Hello. My name is Carrie, and I...I....still like oaked Chardonnay. (Please don't judge.)

I watched the show and was inspired enough to make the torte recipe. It was the first Pie crust I've ever made from scratch and it came out great. But as far as being a $10 meal, the Gruyere cheese alone was $9. -RP

You did not use all $9.00 worth did you? That 10 bucks is factored out for the exact amount of ingredients used.
