Tomato Pie

by Jenise » Sun Aug 09, 2009 2:16 pm

As everyone here surely knows, tomatoes are my #1 favorite food in the whole world. And so as I was skimming Los Angeles chef and radio host Evan Kleinman's blog on which she details her summer project, Pie-a-Day, I was drawn like a magnet to the title of one post: Tomato Pie. She laughs, and I laughed, at the thought that this was a Martha Stewart recipe.

And then I saw the pictures.

All those beautifully colored cherry toms--little orbs of red, green, yellow, orange and purple, coated in a generous quantity of sauteed onions and garlic and heavily flecked with scads of fresh chopped basil, all nested in an uncommonly white and virginal raw gruyere cheese dough awaiting it's top half and finally, the oven. This, for me, is the ultimate food porn.

I MUST HAVE THIS.

Looks pretty darned good to me, even if it did come from Miss Perfection herself.

Smart woman!

I thought the first photo was the finished product, and it already looked pretty darn good to me!

FWIW, "tomato pie" meant pizza in the area of Pennsylvania I lived for a while.

Karen no, more a description. But I'll bet the recipe, if you want more exacting measurements, are on the web somewhere. If you find it post, okay?
