TomatoZilla is burgeoning

and I need about a thousand different ways to serve fresh tomatoes.

TomatoZilla II is about 6 feet in diameter and 4 feet high and has three cage gizmos trying valiantly not to get buried. I expect to be picking 4 to 6 tomatoes a day for two people. The neighbors are going to hate me!

We're on a tomato binge currently, too. We've been having/are about to have caprese, and bruschetta, and tomato dill quiches, and fritattas, and tomato salads, and tomato risotto, and vegetarian tomato paellas, and gazpacho.

LOVE tomato season!

You have the magic to make the most wonderful roasted tomato sauce, sun dried tomatoes, tomato juice, and have this available to you all winter long. One sheet pan full of tomatoes makes 3 to 4 cups of the most rich tomato sauce you have ever had.

We're on the tomato binge as well. The good ones have started hitting the farmer's markets in the last couple of weeks, so it's been a lot of caprese and bruschetta so far. We'll be branching out from that shortly.

Even our local farms don't have a single ripe tomato. It's been so cool, dark & wet here that nothing is ripening (except the blueberries which for some reason have been outstanding).

Our tomatoes are also 'overflowing' and we're constantly on the lookout for other things to try. So far have done gazpacho, tomato casserole, tomato tart, BLT's, salsa, with basil and mozzarella and will be adding to our frozen marinara sauce and tomato soup stocks. Any other ideas gratefully received.

I've got a couple just a few days from being pickable. Looks like there's going to be an avalanche this year. Feast or famine.

So we can have tomatoes and wine if we can make it to McMinnville next month? ;)

We have our own Tomatozilla, even after 3 feet (with 10 tomatoes) broke off top in a storm, it's still 9 feet tall (ran out of stakes, using gutter leader). A Black Prince, has about 30-40 tomatoes on it. Most are green, and with all the rain unsure what will ripen and what will succumb. But yesterday we had the one completely ripened tomato from this gorgeous heirloom. Very funky looking (red heading to dark grey) but delicious (with a few basil leaves and salt, we were going out to dinner). Also have healthy looking Roma and Striped German plants, the plums are almost ready, the striped German has lots of fruit, but all green. The last heirloom isn't faring well. We just need some warm dry weather
