I have sent that article to everyone I know who eats beef and shops at Costco so that they can start filling the suggestion box (which, like Frank, I've been doing).

That was really neat to see Frank (and FLDG, almost) featured in the article.
Jenise, did you ever get veal chops at your Costco?
Hello. My name is Carrie, and I...I....still like oaked Chardonnay. (Please don't judge.)

I was crushed that we didn't a small nod, Carrie, but that's okay. Veal chops? There's no veal at my Costco, ever. This isn't a poor area, but neither is it flamboyant or affluent and the actual number of people who buy luxury foods is relatively small. They can be trained, however!

I saw the article too. Alas, there's no Costco within hundreds of miles of me.

Didn't realize that was possible in any major American city.

There's none in Oklahoma, possibly because they wouldn't be allowed to sell alcohol. No Trader Joe's either. There is a Sam's Club, which I never frequent.

That is odd because most Costco's here in NJ don't sell wine. Hmm, I don't think they sell booze either.

Maybe most sell beer though.

???

I assumed that the non-wine ones were alcohol free. I will have to check. Anyone got an opinon??

Nice job, Frank. We do not have Costco in these parts but we do have Sam's Club. From what I have seen at the Costco in Marin County they are rather similar to Sam's Club. I will be sure to suggest to the local Sam's Club that they sell grade prime beef.

Consistent with our state laws, Costco is a grocer so may sell wine and beer but not distilled hooch.

Grocers in Oklahoma can only sell beer, and that can be no more than 3.2 abv. Wine, stronger beer and distilled spirits can only be sold at a liquor store or in a restaurant/bar.

Pennsylvania's liquor laws are convoluted, too. I'm glad I don't live there anymore: 6-packs or quarts of beer are sold from bars; at beer wholesalers, you have to buy an entire case, whether it's quarts or not; spirits and wine--not beer--are sold in state stores, which are closed on every conceivable holiday--just when you want a bottle of something. And it used to be that you couldn't even look at their selection; you had to choose from a printed list and then the clerk would go into the back room and bring it out (if it was still in stock). The whole experience was to lay a guilt-trip on you. "You want two bottles of wine?"

Robert,

Regardless of what some might think I am not shilling for Sam's Club. and I understand that you may have a philosophical reason or dislike for Sam's and or Wal-Mart, as I know some folks do. However I would recommend that sometime you visit a Sam's and check out the meat. I am far from the beef capitol of the USA, but at least here in Lexington, Sam's meat is the best in town.

So I had to make an emergency Costco run today. While there, I scoped out meat counter, for first time they had prime (boneless ribeyes for $9.99/lb). No whole pieces, just cut steaks. I went through every package and found the one I thought looked most evenly marbled. Not so thick, but it's raining and I think thinner is ok for non-grilled. We had two tonight (vacu-froze other two), I thought quite excellent for the price. This isn't Lobel's or Bryans, but at $10 lb locally a deal.
