Bastille Day--are you celebrating?

by Jenise » Tue Jul 14, 2009 4:38 pm

We are! Menu's inconclusive. Would love to do a Beaujolais and mushroom crepe dinner, but alas, though there is now a stove in my kitchen there are no cabinets, no pans and no sink for washing up so I am not prepared to do anything of the sort. Might have to settle for some French cheeses, a baguette, and a salad of frisee and bibb lettuce with lardons plus a poached egg for Bob.

No real plans for snacks as I have to work late tonight to support a hardware upgrade.

I will however have a Frenchie of some sorts to drink when I do make it home. I see a 2007 CdR in my future.

Yes we're gonna do a couple of rousing choruses of Froggy Went a-courtin before the burger main course!

Yup.....in a nearby bistro ......escargots a la bourguignonne, coq au vin, cheese platter all with a pleasant Cotes du Rhone.

And then instead of my usual brand of cigarettes Gauloises bleu.

Nope. Totally unaware of the significance of today's date. Instead, we're having a baked ziti-style dish with sausage. At least I got in the neighborhood.

Yep, I'm celebrating not being in Paris, not having my ass kicked by the CRS, not having my Nikon smashed and my film stripped and not being gassed with CS on Bastille Day. That's what I've celebrated on this day every year since 1968. Couldn't celebrate those things that year.

Chef, I wonder if you have seen "The Dreamers"?? Quite a snapshot of Paris in 1968.

I was trying to get a group together to go to a Bistro tonight. By the time I got the group together I couldn't get a reservation.

So it's Bulgogi, Gin and Tonic, and the All Star Game. Feh...

No, I haven't seen it, Frank. But I just put it on my list. I think I'll whip up some Margaritas myself.

A simple glass of rosé.
