That's funny, and now that I know this, will have to find out what Jan discusses with our tomato plants which flourish after a chat in her apparently, 'dulcid tones'!
I've never been privvy to the conversations, so will have to find out what subjects she covers with them.
This 'revelation' brings up several questions that as an 'inquiring mind', I'd like to know.
Do the different plants prefer to chat about different subjects, do some like sports, politics, religion, I.E. the Jerusalem artichoke with the latter topic...
What language do plants prefer, this experiment conducted in English, so is there any reason to suppose that rebellious plants will refuse to grow if spoken to in Serbo-Croat, or tagalog, or Cantonese.
Whole new area here for your rudderless 'academic' to apply for grants...

LOL--talking religion and politics with a Jerusalem artichoke! Begs some new questions, doesn't it? Are eggplants super-smart, are pumpkins dumb?

Hate to admit it, but I talk to my plants. Not because I think they hear me, I just tend to prattle on while I'm out there taking care of them. The Japanese maples I'm particularly conservant with, and I greet each by name. Oh, and some are boys and some are girls--how daft is that? Full Moon's a girl, Bloodgood's a boy....

Perhaps I talk to the tomatoes too, as I've already harvested four and no one else I know has harvested even one yet.

I don't actually talk to them, but I "think" to them. I have been picking for two weeks, mostly Sun Gold cherry toms, and one Early Girl regular size. I am looking at them out the window and I see a lot of Sun Gold that are ready, plus two La Roma, and a few other red tinges showing through various plants. I need to go check it out as soon as it gets cooler out there. Right now the sun is beating down on the garden.
