Warsaw Poland Restaurant Review 2

by WWLL » Fri May 22, 2009 9:05 pm

My first night in Warsaw I could not get into Polka's, more on that later, and wound up eating in one of the tourist traps on the main sqaure of Old Town. A slim pork chop, french fries and a beer came to US$20.

The next night I got into Polka's. It is on the ground floor of Castle Inn, my hotel. Polka is the creation of Madge Gessler, the Alice Waters of Poland. Inside it is made up like a home, with lots of curtains and home touches. I had a herring potato salad with thousand island dressing. Then I had half a chicken Polish style, with liver and breadcrumb stuffing. It was very good but I do not know whether it was Polish or not. With a glass of indifferent Sangiovase the meal cost US$20.

I've never seen herring pink like that, had it been soaked in beet juice or something? Pretty presentation.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
