Warsaw, Poland Restaurant Review 1

by WWLL » Fri May 22, 2009 9:00 pm

Little did I expect the culinary highlight of my European trip would be an Argentine steak in the Old Town of Warsaw. The last night in Warsaw I found Polwale Piwna Kompania at the edge of Old Town. It was touted by InYourPocket guidebook to be loads of food. I discovered that in Old Town there are tons of tourist traps but there are also some real gems.

The entrance to Polwale is blocked by a truck for Pilsner Urquell. There is an open air dining area where I found a table. There was no greeter and one just get a table. This is asparagus season and one of their specials is an Argentine steak with asparagus and homemade Hollandaise sauce and potatos. I ordered that and 0.4 L of Pilsner Urquell.

One bite into the steak immediately brought back memories of Bueno Aires. The char-broiled steak has that crispiness I associate with Argentine steaks. I was in heaven. The meal came to 49 zlotis or US$16.

Only $16? Impressive. Looks pretty good--I love a steak with heavy char like that. And I have to say I think it was rather brave of you to go Argentine in Poland. (Though, on my first trip to Amsterdam a long long time ago, I have to admit to doing the same thing.)
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
