Does anyone know what happened to Yaniger? The last I heard he went stone crazy and moved to Montana but I have not heard much out of him since then.

Apparently he and Cynthia decided to take a hiatus, but I really don't know much.

Could also be that something called "a life" took prominence for a while. Changed jobs, moved from Montana to Austin, TX, and purportedly is shopping for a large cowboy hat, a tooled leather belt with a huge, enormous, shiny belt-buckle and some Tony Lama boots with riding heels. I told him to go for the Mexican top style, but I think he'll probably get the flashier two-tone version with the pointy toes and the American flag embroidered on the sides; that's what most Texas newbies do.

That, and take up square dancing for a while. Cynthia will look great in her gingham gown with the quadruple petticoats when Stuart is twirling her around and doing do-si-dos. Whatever the hell a do-si-do is.

And I believe that means that Stuart and Robert J. will now be occupying similar coordinates in the space-time continuum.

Perhaps the folks behind the "Keep Austin Weird" movement should have been careful of what they wished for.

Stuart moved to Austin? Well I guess as long as he is a resident there the city will not have to worry about losing their first place status...

I shudder to think what Austin is like if they actually have more drunks than Milwaukee. Parenthetically, Milwaukee fell down to second place shorty after I moved away.

I'm intrigued by this - having seen a similar turn of phrase in a Terry Pratchett book - and he's well known for obscure / clever references. I never did know the genesis of this (#2, so tries harder), so maybe after all these years I get to find out.

Trivia side note Tom and Ian: Avis ran the theme for years. It was aimed not at Hertz which was much bigger but at National, the number three brand. One of the ad guys told me the theme gained customer recognition from National renters and that Avis market share grew at National's expense.

Well if you lived in Texas you would feel the necessity to drink a lot.
Actually I have spent some time in Austin and have friends who have lived there for years and they insist that Austin is the only habitable area in the whole state. I think it's the influence of the University of Texas and the surrounding hill country.

I was in Austin for a music festival last year and had a fantastic time. I couldn't believe the number of great venues for live music. I wouldn't mind living there except that I don't know that I'd ever be able to drag my ass in to work.

I've met a number of Texans during my lifetime and there is not a one that I did not like. Of course, I have never met Jerry Jones and he would probably be the exception, but all of the others are ok in my book.

I like any State that has restaurants promising, "If you can eat our 72 ounce steak in 1 hour the dinner is free!"

Agreed. One of my frat brothers was from Green Bay. He was quite proud of the fact that GB had the highest beer consumption per capita of any city in the country.

Our corporate HQ is in GB. People visit there from here and here from there. Our advice to the folks based here: No matter how accomplished you are as a drinker, never, never, never try to keep up with anyone from GB. That includes the GB women; it will be embarassing when she has one more for the road, carries you to the car, then drives you home.

Any recollection of brandy? The natives seem fond of that as well.....brandy old-fashioneds, brandy manhattans....
