Ferran Adria (El Bulli) has given his name to some interesting utensils.

How can anyone live without a writing spoon:

Not sure exactly what the top utensil at

http://faces-usa.com/kitchen.html
would be called.

Probably a herb gripper or something.

I have always liked antique utensils we no longer need. Candle wick trimmers and such. And everyone owns a sterling silver set of asparagus tongs, I assume.....

I'm guessing herb-picker. I wonder if that little curlique where the stems go in has a blade in it for easy cutting of the herbs from the plant?

Patti, I think it is a 'Plus Tongs' - when I read the description for that it talks about a hole in one side.

But of course, and I also own sterling silver scissors for cutting the group of grapes from the main stem. Haven forbid that one should pluck the grapes. Gene and I always plucked the grapes from the cluster until my matron of honor (a very proper and strict German lady instructed us how uncouth we were being. She gave me the silver scissors from her beautiful collection of "couth" accoutrements and we have used them since. As for the candle trimmers , I just use my fingers to break off the end. But I do have candle snuffers! :)

If I'd seen that writing spoon before you did, I'd have bought one for you. :)

And I'd have written you a thank you note - in sauce, on a slab of terrine!

I feel more couth just from reading that.
