Mt. Vernon WA area fine dining?

by wnissen » Tue May 05, 2009 12:06 pm

Is there such a thing? My sister is graduating from Western Washington University and I'd like to take her someplace good to celebrate.

Thanks,
Walt

Why Mount Vernon - why not Bellingham? I work at WWU, BTW, but live in north county near Jenise. She should chime in with some good recommendations - Fino or Tivoli.

Ah, good point. My sister lives in Mt. Vernon, that's all. Google says it's half an hour away, but I'd drive that for the right restaurant. What's the best dining in Bellingham?

Walt, Bellingham is definitely one up, or maybe two, on Mt. Vernon these days so I'd suggest you dine up this way. The two best restaurants for food here are Tivoli and the Prospect St. Cafe. In both cases, the owner(s) are also the chef(s) and working hard to bring a level of quality and sophistication to our town . Fino, at the Chrysalis hotel and which Chris mentions, can be great too--she and I had a fabulous lunch there about a year ago, but I haven't been recently and chefs move through there, so things seem to change there with some regularity. That said, if the chef's good there right now,the room is gorgeous--sleek and modern with great views over Bellingham Bay. Ditto the Oyster Bary on Chuckanut Drive (halfway between Bellingham and Mt. Vernon on famed Chuckanut Drive), and again--the views!
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
