Naturally, they got fired

by Larry Greenly » Thu Apr 16, 2009 11:20 am

Two Domino's workers filmed themselves preparing food and posted it on YouTube. They got themselves fired, and one of the perps yanked it off YouTube, claiming a copyright violation (can you believe it?).

Anyway, here it is from a tv station: http://www.wcnc.com/video/news-index.html?nvid=351987

It happens more than we'd care to know about.....especially when someone complains about the food and your plate is taken back into the kitchen. I see people working with food, using gloves, then they take money from customers at the register, then go back to the food. Female servers with chipped nail polish...don't they know that polish continues to chip and gets into the food? I could go on forever about my observations here and on our travels, which is why we prefer to eat at home. I'm not talking fast food places either, because we hardly go there. Papa Murphy's is about as fast foodish as I can stand, at least I can watch them make my pizza. Oh, and my other joint is a free standing kiosk, down by the river that has the best Polish Kraut Dogs....going there today, in between errands, then I eat on the edge of the beautiful Sacramento River watching water fowl, hundreds of them. :D

It's worth pointing out that the video was performed totally as a joke. They never did anything like that to food served to customers. The disturbing thing, though, is that if they had done it to food destined for customers, apparently the wouldn't have been caught before the damage was done. Highly embarrassing for Domino's however you look at it.

Also, it was a copyright violation to have posted the video to YouTube without permission of the folks who made the video.

I thought the perps were the ones who originally posted the video on YouTube.

But in that case they could have taken it down themselves, no?

I remember being shocked, as a teenager, when we did an experiment in science class, culturing moulds and other creeping growing things by exposing petrie dishes full of nutrient jelly to common environments and objects. Money and the wipe-up cloth in the kitchen were the "dirtiest" sources of greeblies. I think of this every time my money is taken at a shop by a person wearing a rubber glove.

I did not get the sense that the video was done as a joke. At all.

And I never EVER worked in a restaurant kitchen where we did that to food, not to anyone, not if they sent it back, not if they complained...never. Ever.

Barb, HI! :) You gotta be careful with underpaid people who handle your food ... they have issues.

P.S. The Today show this morning had a segment where Kathy Lee Gifford said she was going to order from Domino's a lot because those two nasty people were not representative of their employees and she didn't want to see the company blamed/taken down. She was furious, and I agreed with her. It's like the Wendy's/human finger brouhaha that was bogus.

That's my experience as well. When I worked in restaurants, I had co-workers who were some of the rudest people I could ever imagine meeting. None of them ever did anything like that.

Thank you. The general public seems to have this perception, but in my experience, it simply isn't true.
It is the hospitality industry, and the majority of hardworking foodservice professionals just want you to enjoy your meal, and leave happy. What owner or chef would stand for such behavior, when the reputation and success of the business would be put in jeopardy?

There are losers like these two in all walks of life. Unfortunately, we're stuck with them.

Really folks, it's okay to send your food back to the kitchen, politely, if you are not happy with it. Give the cooks another chance.

Betcha she doesn't vs. only SAYING she would. And, it's still bad pizza.
