Bread Tutorial

by Celia » Mon Apr 13, 2009 12:17 am

I've spent today putting together a basic bread tutorial, complete with photos and videos - I hope some of you might check it out for me - any suggestions welcome! It's here.

I'm super chuffed to find out that Wordpress lets me embed my own videos!

One thing that I remembered while I was putting it together was that it was Robin who inspired me to make bread in the first place - in one of his old Foodletters, he wrote about making bread for dinner and it was his suggestion that the process wasn't nearly as arduous as I'd always imagined that inspired me to try my first loaf. And now I bake all the time, and I'm on WLDG posting about a tutorial I've written on bread making. Life is a circle.. :)

I think you are talking about Robin's "Ultimate Baguette" recipe. It's the recipe I use for baguette, and, while there are more involved and intricate recipes out there, I find the STGR (simplicity to goodness ratio) of Robin's can't be beat.

I'll check out your tutorial. Thanks.

John, I don't think so, I thought it was a loaf recipe from memory. What struck me as different was it was the first time someone suggested doing the mixing and kneading in a mixing bowl, which I loved. The idea of putting flour all over the bench to knead was putting me off trying..
