International Dining Etiquette Quiz

by Dave R » Thu Apr 02, 2009 11:01 am

This reminds me of a rather significant faux pas I made while dining in Greece for the first time. See how you do on this quiz...

I got nine out of 11.....
I missed the one about tossing everything on the floor when you were done eating and the one about cutting your potato with a fork or knife. Fun quiz.

Harrumph. That page requires installing Shockwave. Too bad--that makes it a no-go for me.

I only got 9 of 11 even with the help of Karen Hunter/Gatherer's hints. I guess I'm just a helpless slob ... or I don't know Polish superstitions.

I'm not afraid of Shockwave, by the way, but I notice on my system, that site won't work with either Chrome or Firefox - it thinks you don't have Shockwave or Flash even if you do. It functions only with Internet Exploder, which is lame.

I only got 6 out of 11 - I really need to get out more (but I need to learn a few things before I do!)

Worked fine on Firefox on my wife's laptop.

*** SPOILER ALERT ***

The answer to question 1 is wrong. Or more likely, the question was not crafted correctly. Chinese mothers DO make their kids eat everything on their plates. It's only when you are a guest at a Chinese family's home or at a banquet/restaurant that you are expected to leave some food on your plate out of consideration for your host. (And nowadays, it isn't always that big a deal anyway.)
