Please excuse my lapse in ladylike language, but....
Okay, so I'll admit it: yesterday I had half an hour to kill between events so I flipped on the food channel just in time to catch ole "Rach" about to start a Valentines Day dinner for two. I'm actually glad I did, because it was most entertaining, if not in the way she intended. Here's the menu:
One 64 ounch 3" thick Delmonico, pan seared and then oven roasted to medium rare
Mashed potatoes
Beefsteak tomatoes stuffed with creamed spinach (from frozen)
Strawberries with Grand Marnier and chocolate ganache
The show started at 6:00. Now guess what she started first???
The creamed spinach. Next, the strawberries! She didn't even unwrap the steak until 6:11, just before cutting to a break. At 6:13, just two minutes later, she was back from break and the giant russett potatoes, previously just sitting on the counter au naturale, were now magically peeled and already bubbling away and quite frothy. Yeah, right! At 6:14 the steak went into the cast iron skillet to brown, at 6:19, it went into the oven. At 6:21, she said for the FOURTH time that her steak cost "$30 but that's nothing compared to what you'd pay in one of those great steak restaurants." At 6:26, everything was done, and the meat was being sliced into paper thin (maybe 1/4" inch, what a waste) slices and without the leakage that would be present in unrested meat.
Yup, that's a 30 minute meal allright.
