Bought a FoodSaver

by Cynthia Wenslow » Wed Jan 28, 2009 3:05 pm

Model V2480.

Played with it for a while last night.

I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Stuart thought I was far too easily amused.

I suspect it's going to be one of those "how did I ever live without it" appliances.

Do you have one?

Yes, though not that brand. Bought one last year and I love it! I use it for sealing bags as much as vacuuming them. What I have learnt is that hot chocolate mix and corn chips don't vacuum well. :)

Cyn, I have had one of these so long that the nomenclature of mine is model 550! Anyway, I do like it very much. I have salmon (copper River) frozen since it was in season and seems to be as fresh as the day I bought it. Now, if we could find a good price on the packaging material (rolls) I usually buy them at Sam's Club in a multi pack for around $40. I would reuse the bags, but the wife doesn't want to be bothered.

I bought the FoodSaver 2860 last year and love it. If you have not, be sure to watch the DVD. It provides some good tips.

Did you buy any of the canisters? I only purchased bags.

Celia, mine has a setting so one doesn't crush things like cookies, and once an choose dry or moist foods.

Bob, I intend to re-use bags as much as I can.

Dave, mine came with two canisters and the stuff for doing Mason jars.

I bought a rival brand--in fact, it might actually be a Rival, last summer. Love the concept, hate this machine. I need the moisture thingie you have on yours--this one manages to crush the oil out of the fish to some degree, and that's not good.

I love my FoodSaver. It lives on my countertop most of the time. I'm on my second one. I wore out the first.

I use the mason jars alot, especially in the summer for berries and such. I also use it when I make stock.

The possibilities are endless!

Did you get the one that stands up on end? I've been eyeing that one, but the one I have is too new to replace.

Love my Food Saver.....could not do without it. Mine sits out all the time.....in the laundry room, just off the kitchen, on a tile counter. I reuse my bags all the time. I have not used the ones that stored meats. However now I wrap the meat/chicken in saran wrap and then run through the FS. That way, no juice gets onto the inside of the bag. Mine does stand in the end, for storage purposes only. I think the newer ones stand on end and vacuum that way, is that right? I love that the new models are a hands free operation. My old one required both hands while it was sucking.
