Another reason not to like Whole Foods

They're closing the Wild Oats store near my house. I know some of you will say what a good thing that is, but I sure don't feel that way.

I went to Wild Oats before going to the office. They're having a 33% off sale that supposedly started yesterday. A plague of locusts must have descended upon them because the store was almost bare. My booty consisted of some oat bran, a jar of malt syrup and a can of baking powder. Whoopie.

The Henry's/Wild Oats/Whole Foods mess has left us in Phoenix with Whole Foods (expensive) and Sprout's (Iow quality produce). I don't go to either one.

Hey Doug, we just started produce shopping at Mekong Plaza (Dobson and Main). I know it's a haul down there for you (It's a good 35-45mins for me) but the produce is really really nice and the prices on most things are dirt cheap. I had half a pushcart filled with peapods, snap peas, enoki mushrooms, brocolli, various types of pears, fresh asian noodles, etc and it all came to $18.
My back up is Sprouts, which isn't too bad way down here in the SE valley. It sure is better than the mainline grocers regardign quality and price.

Thanks, Bill. I may have to check them out, as well as the weekly farmer's market at 101 and Northern.

Can any of you Phoenix people tell me anything about Lee Lee's market? They are opening one here in Tucson. -RP

David: Ouch!

Randy: I've never been to Lee Lee's so I can't help. But can you tell me why there is such a dearth of good restaurants near the airport in Tucson? We stay around there when attending horse shows at the fairgrounds and finding a decent place to eat is a real chore. (and I refuse to wait 45 minutes for a table at Chili's)

Doug,
If you like good Mexican food, south 4th avenue has some good ones. What kind of horse shows do you attend? My wife and daughter are really into dressage. She is the volunteer coordinator for the Tucson Dressage Club shows out at the fairgrounds. -RP

Randy, it's the dressage shows we go to. My daughter is a trainer and competitor. We were just there in January and will be at the March show.

When are they gonna open the exits on the freeway up? That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

Small world, my wife knows your daughter. I think they are supposed to finish this year with I-10, we'll see. -RP
