Last night's dream

by Jenise » Sat Jan 24, 2009 12:49 pm

Stuart and Cynthia bought the house next door. They moved here from California. Stuart was a famed children's book illustrator whose forte was the dark, surreal Harry Potter style of scary-kiddie stuff. His most famous work was of a tree house he painted from a tree house that had been in his California backyard, wherein he'd hollowed out a 200 foot tall 20 foot wide California redwood to make a carport on the bottom story and the treehouse part for Jimmy was three stories up. He wanted to build another here and was disappointed that we don't have any trees that big. We spent a day cooking a meal together in which Stuart used a fire engine red coffee cup as his only form of measure, and proclaimed loudly that he only believed in using halfs and whole--no wimpy quarters or thirds, "those are for Obama voters". We discussed the restaurant Cynthia planned to open in which she would only serve bean soup. Twenty different varieties of bean soup, mind you, but nonetheless only bean soup. For surfers. The restaurant was going to have a big sand beach in front and be fenced by surfboards partially buried upright in the sand, and only the Beach Boys music was going to be played continuously. I tried to tell her about Jack Johnson but she didn't want to hear it. We made scones. Her now famous cranberry scones, of course, but also scones made from "fresh local ingredients". I remember that we dug up clams on the beach for one such incarnation with gouda from the Pleasant Valley Dairy in Ferndale, but we also made crab, nettle and blueberry.

I haven't a clue where any of this came from. :|

This is truly frightening. Have you considered electroshock therapy?

Er..... I don't know how to make bean soup, I'm allergic to seafood, and I hate the Beach Boys, whereas I *do* own a Jack Johnson CD.

And I hardly ever dream about fire engine red coffee cups. ;)

That must have been symbolic of The Other Stupid.

Odd...Stuart showed up in a dream for me as well last night. Of course I was in the Rhone, thus it made a lot more sense.

The idea of having Stuart illustrate children's books is either incredibly frightening or a stroke of unconscious genius - I'm not sure which.

Balko, yes, but maybe S. Clay Wilson?

Here let me have another go at it.

Yeah, that makes sense, particularly in light of your eloquence on chat the other evening.

On November 8, 2008, Wilson suffered a "severe brain injury".[1] After attending the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco and drinking throughout the day, Wilson left the house of a friend and was found by two passersby, face down and unconscious between parked cars. Among his injuries were a fractured neck; it is not known if he was assaulted or passed out.[2]

After a week in intensive care, Wilson was put on an accelerated therapy program, but still showed major difficulty in summoning words, a common form of aphasia following a trauma of this sort.[3] He had recovered enough to write his own signature in the first week of December, but continued to require hospitalization as of the end of December 2008,[4] when a benefit was held to assist with his medical costs.[5]

Whichever is true, it was surely a disappointment to wake up and find it not true. David's situation was even worse though, not only did he not wake up with Stuart he wasn't even in the Rhone!

Speaking of whom, I was just listening to this the other day. Quite enjoyable.

Stop! Yes, I know S. Clay Wilson didn't draw the cover. The same guy drew it who plays banjo and mandolin on the CD. Keep on truckin'.
